Maryland Market Money (MMM)

Statewide food access and nutrition incentive program for farms and markets.

Here's how it works:

  • Customers using federal nutrition benefits like SNAP (EBT), WIC, or FMNP (Farmers Market Nutrition Program) can receive matching funds when they spend their benefits at participating farmers markets.

  • For example, if a shopper spends $10 in SNAP benefits, they receive an extra $10 in Maryland Market Money—doubling their purchasing power for fresh fruits, vegetables, and other eligible items.

  • The matching funds are free to the shopper and are designed to encourage healthier eating while also supporting local farmers.

Key Goals:

  • Improve healthy food access for low-income households

  • Support Maryland’s farmers and local food systems

  • Encourage shopping at farmers markets and farm stands

The program is managed by the Maryland Farmers Market Association (MDFMA) in collaboration with local market operators. Maryland Market Money helps farmers make more money, reach more people, and be part of a healthier and more inclusive food system.

Fresh food should be for everyone—but real barriers still stand in the way.

From stigma and shame that silence EBT shoppers, to red tape that makes it hard for farmers to accept SNAP, to the digital disconnect that leaves too many farmers in the dark about their options. Although these challenges can be like villains, they'll never win.

What is EBT/SNAP?

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) helps individuals and families buy healthy food. EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) is the card system used to access those benefits, like a debit card for groceries.

In Maryland, SNAP/EBT can be used at participating farmers markets, grocery stores, and some farm stands, helping more people access fresh, local food while supporting the local economy.
